Marigold is the main raw material for extracting lutein and carotenoids. The average content of yellow pigment is no less than 12g per kilogram. This pigment is a pollution-free natural pigment.
Xanthophyll
Brief Introduction
Also known as "plant lutein", it co exists with zeaxanthin in nature. Lutein and zeaxanthin are the main components of plant pigments such as corn, vegetables, fruits and flowers. They are also the main pigments in the macular region of human retina. In nature, lutein has the highest content in dark green leafy vegetables such as cabbage, kale and spinach, as well as flowers such as marigold and marigold. Human eyes contain high amounts of lutein and zeaxanthin, but these two elements cannot be made by the human body. They must be supplemented by foods containing lutein and zeaxanthin. If they are lacking, the eyes will lose sight.
Lutein is a beneficial nutrient found in some vegetables, fruits and egg yolks. It belongs to the carotenoid family. Carotenoids are a class of chemicals related to vitamin A. β- Carotene is well known as a precursor of vitamin A, but there are about 600 other compounds in this family that need to be understood. They have a lot besides lutein, for example α- Carotene, lycopene, zeaxanthin and β- Zeaxanthin.
In the plant world, carotenoids such as lutein mainly add color to sweet potatoes, carrots and other vegetables and fruits. In the human body, lutein and zeaxanthin constitute the main pigment in the center of the retina, which is the most sensitive to vision. Although lutein is not considered as an essential nutrition, studies have shown that it plays a great role in maintaining normal vision and preventing eye diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration (ARMD), cataracts and so on. Adequate intake of carotenoids can also reduce the prevalence of colorectal cancer and heart disease.
Effect
Lutein and other carotenoids are considered Antioxidant. Antioxidants can protect cells from damage caused by free radicals, which are a destructive by-product of normal metabolism. Free radicals in the body will rob other molecules of electrons and damage cells and genes. This process is called oxidation. Research conducted by the agricultural research service of the United States Department of agriculture (USDA) shows that lutein fights free radicals like vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidant. Lutein is concentrated in retina and lens, which can protect vision by neutralizing free radicals and increasing pigment density. Lutein also has a masking effect on destructive strong light. A small study published in the Journal of experimental eye research in 1997 showed that lutein could significantly reduce the damage of blue light reaching the sensitive parts of the eyes to the human body. The two subjects who participated in the experiment took lutein equivalent to 30mg per day for five consecutive months.
